Our little Eyal was rescued from a pen in the south, when he was just a few days old.

Miri, the spouse of the Israel’s Masterchef judge Eyal Shani, visited the Freedom Farm Sanctuary and fell in love with our residents. When she returned home, she asked her husband to rescue at least one lamb to be a companion for our Gary.

On his next tour of pens, Eyal came across a perfect white lamb, sitting all alone in a cage, locked away from his mother. The pen owner opened the cage door and handed him the lamb as a gift, perhaps because the lamb was ill, and would not be fit for slaughter.

When little Eyal arrived, his ear was already pierced with a plastic number tag, and it was badly infected. We gently removed the tag, but unfortunately, it was too late. The infection had spread and caused complications, including pneumonia, and Eyal needed antibiotics and rehabilitation therapy.

March 2017

Eyal is much better now, but the pneumonia caused irreparable damage that sadly effects his quality of life, probably for long as he lives. Still, he is much better off than the fate that awaited him.

Today, Eyal is an integral part of the Freedom Farm Sanctuary family. He feels it is his personal responsibility to welcome visitors to FFS. Clever and affectionate, he befriends people on tours, encouraging them to give him lots of hugs and attention.
