Iris's story
Hi, my name is Iris, when you see me today enjoying life at Freedom Farm Sanctuary it’s hard to believe where I came from.
I was born in a dark, noisy, and crowded place. They cut off the end of my beak and loaded me and thousands of other birds like me on a truck.
In the middle of the road, I mustered up the courage, made my way towards a slit of light, and jumped off of the truck not knowing what would happen to me.
Luckily a kind-hearted woman named Anat saw me jumping and immediately stopped her car to save me.
I tried to run away from her because I thought she wanted to hurt me but I was so tired that Anat managed to pick me up and take me with her.
After a quiet night at her house, we drove together to a magical place called Freedom Farm Sanctuary. At first, I was scared. Many people stood around me and looked at me, and I did not understand what they wanted from me.
Those same people started to treat me. They gave me food and water, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and most importantly they gave me something I had never felt before – love.
I always thought humans were bad, but here on the farm, I am beginning to regain my trust in them. I know I have come to a good place, where I will always be taken care of, where I can be my true self and live a peaceful life.
