0638.PETA2.JPG594x0Following the successful struggle carried out during the 80's and 90's against the Fur Industry, many people believe that the scope of the Fur Industry is fairly small. However, during the last decade this industry has managed to recover, and tens of millions of animals are still living and dying for their furs every year, under appalling conditions.

Rabbits, minks, foxes, chinchillas, sables, bobcats, wild dogs and rodents are raised and held in tiny cages. Many animals lose their sanity under such conditions. They develop severe neurotic behaviors like repetitive movements going on for hours, self-induced injuries, tail biting, and even aggression and killing against their own kind.

One of every 5 or 6 animals dies due to the harsh conditions: the contaminated meat they are fed, insufficient water supply, disease, parasites or epidemics that spread rapidly in the over-occupied cages.

event_161223502Killing is carried out using various methods, all intended to preserve the fur intact and without flaws: hitting the animal on the head with a rod, smashing the animal forcefully on the floor, suffocation by gas, electrocution by clasping the animal's lip or ear with a clips and inserting a metal rod into their anus or a Strychnine injection causing death by suffocation due to muscle paralysis.

Eighty-five percent of the world's fur originates in China, where there are no laws protecting animals. Many animals, including dogs and cats, are stripped of their skin while still alive. In many cases when stunning is used, it is done carelessly. Candid camera documentation has revealed animals awaking from being stunned while they are being skinned, fully conscious. They struggle throughout the process and are still conscious 5 to 10 minutes after.
